After Bruce Lee's untimely death in 1973, and the global success of Enter The Dragon, two films were created from existing footage of the Green Hornet television series the to capitalize on his worldwide stardom. This is the first of these films, released theatrically in 1974. Starring Bruce Lee as Kato and Van Williams as The Green Hornet, the film capitalized on the existing popularity of the 1960s crime-fighting duo. Edited with Bruce Lee's star power in mind, the film has an abundance of spectacular fight scenes.

OK, let's face it. You're not getting this because you want to see tight plots with spectacular special effects and 5.1 surround sound.
You want to see Bruce Lee in THE Green Hornet. The one everyone's heard about but was (until JUST recently) never available on DVD, VHS, etc. There are three volumes made up of the series and a "movie" that was planned for release.
Volume 1 is REALLY just three episodes from the series. They last about 84 minutes in total and the chapter stops (all four of them??) don't really make any sense. But this isn't something you're going to watch over and over, scanning for specific moves. This is
just for fun!
Never having seen the original series before, it was a surprise that Bruce Lee wasn't just "some guy in the background", but one of the main characters. Of course, you've got to feel bad for the "main" actor. Talk about being eclipsed by someone else! At least he made it to the level of a Trivial Pursuit question.
But Bruce Lee is very much a part of the "action" and really does some half-way decent moves (for a 60's TV show anyway - but no one outside of the Marketing Department should be calling them "spectacular"). Of course, it's all a bit hokey by today's standards, but worth watching at least once. Not nearly as campy as the Batman TV series since they treated it as a "crime drama".
This stuff is definitely in the category of watch it once and you'll probably pass it on to someone else, BUT you really should watch it at least once. After all, we are talking Bruce Lee...! You could probably come up with a pretty good drinking game out of it too.
Sound and lighting are very good quality - typical of a color 60's TV show (think "Bewitched"). Nothing special, but quite watchable. They appeared to have done a great job on the transfer to DVD (except for the
chapter stops!). These are "real" DVDs, not someone's homemade (unauthorized) copies burned in their basement.
There's also a short extra on the car used in the series (about 8 minutes) and a trailer.
Oddly, the "pilot episode" is actually on Vol 3 with a bonus short film, but honestly, it's not the end of the world if you watch these out of order... Not like watching something horribly involved like Harry Potter or the Die Hard series.
Running time: approximately 84 minutes plus limited extras (full color)
