I bought this for my son, who is in MMA training. I was concerned about getting the correct size in an online order, but when it came (extra quick!), it fit perfectly. He has already been able to work on his Jiu Jitsu in it, and says he has no problems with mobility. The fabric feels very durable, and we expect to get a great deal of good use out of this uniform. An excellent value that more people should take advantage of, since there are so many very expensive Jiu Jitsu uniforms out there.

Excellent Beginner's Gi Review by Marie B.

Just received this product - shipping was faster than the stated time frame, so that was a definite plus, and they even included a handwritten note. The gi has been durable for my beginner's classes. We even did pull ups using the gi and not a fiber out of place. It will definitely last me until I know whether I need to purchase a double weave and then I'll look at the shockwave doubles in the mix.

As to gi sizing - I'm 5'6", ~150 lbs. I'm not sure of my waist measurement, but I'm between a women's size 6 or 8, since we don't do standard sizing, and usually a medium women's shirt, small or medium men's. I will say to others that the top is definitely on the larger size, but the pants fit perfectly. However, the next size down would probably be too small, and I like to layer a wicking t-shirt or something underneath. I'm sure I could shrink it if I wanted, but I've been following the exhaustive instructions included.

I recommend it as a good beginner's gi - bottom line is that it's not as soft as the more expensive ones, but is durable and will last you through your beginning phase.

Thanks for the excellent product!

Absolutely loving the Gi Review by Roberto M.

Like other reviewers said, "Piranha is the real deal!"

I started BJJ classes recently and was in need of a good gi. After a little research, I ran into Piranha gear through Amazon. Everybody there commented on the superb quality of the gi and it's unbeatable price. Needless to say I love my new gi; even my instructors were checking it out and looking at the brand.

I'm happy to say that from now on I'll buy all future gis from Piranha.

Great Japanese Jujutsu Gi Review by Shoshin Eric

This is my favorite gi. I train Japanese style jujutsu that includes throws, grappling, kata, and joint locks. The 4/5 sleeves let my wrists show so I can properly teach a technique without rolling up my sleeves. The weave is heavy, but not so heavy to stand the heat of New Mexico. The lapels are sturdy and thick for training nage. When on the ground, the gi holds up to everything that we train such as scooting across the mats on our knees, rolling, falling, chokes; you name it.

The only thing about this gi is the amount of shrinkage. I almost feel my gi shrank close to 20% (each time). I am 5'5", 150lbs. I ordered an A2 size. Right out of the box, it was really big on my frame. I shrink-washed it once, and it was still a little too big. I shrink-washed it again and it barely closes around my chest. I do not mind since I wear a rash guard all the time.

Just a caution to new buyers.

You will be completely satisfied with this cut. The way it feels and the way it hang on your body will make you want to wear it all the time.

{Note: We recommend that you NOT use a hot dryer on your uniform or you'll see a lot of shrinkage - especially in the length. The size charts are assuming that you do "cold water/line dry" as you should with all uniforms}

Awesome value Review by Peter

This uniform is very high quality, pretty incredible for the price, and the jiu jitsu cut does indeed have a heavy lapel. My only complaint with the uniform is the fact that the sleeves are too open, which makes it easier for opponents to get a tight grip. So far, the gi has held up quite nicely during sparring.

I am 5'11", 180 lbs and bought the A3. It shrank after washing but still felt a little big, so I threw it in the drier (hope I don't get reprimanded for this!) and it fits perfectly now . . . plus, I don't really have the time or the space to be hanging heavy cotton out to air dry.

A note on customer service: Somehow I managed to order this on Piranha Gear's previous, inactive website, and my order was overlooked for a few days. However, they caught this, emailed me to confirm my order, shipped the uniform immediately and I received it in two days. Piranha Gear has definitely lived up to their awesome reputation for customer service!

Great beginners kimono Review by Tim O.

4 stars for the well made, good fitting, light weight inexpensive kimono. I wish that it had a heavier lapel. Hopefully the next batch that they make will have a thicker lapel.
5 stars for Piranha Gear's customer service!

{Tim, we do have a thicker collar on the "BJJ Cut" single weave uniforms - you might want to check those out next time}

I think it is a really good deal Review by Patrick McKee

For the price you can't beat this gi. The single weave makes it breathable enough that you don't feel like your wrapped in wet canvas sack but it's tough enough to last a long time. Reinforced in all the right places. Great for hot weather. Tough and Durable. At 5'11 and 185 it fits well and didn't shrink at all in the first wash
