Shipping Policy Questions

When does my order ship?

We normally ship within one business day of receiving notification of your order.

APO's and international orders may require an extra day for processing.

If you are paying by check or money order, we'll need to hold your order until funds clear the bank. Please note that if you are using a checking account with PayPal or Google, they typically hold the funds for 2 - 4 days before clearing your order for shipment.

You'll probably find that you can add a small item to your order and the shipping price doesn't go up at all (so three t-shirts might cost the same as two for shipping). Stick them in the shopping cart and see - you can always take them back out.

How does it get shipped?

Inside the US, orders are usually sent with the United States Postal Service (USPS) or FedEx.

FedEx shipping is based on "business days", so they don't deliver or ship on weekends. For example, an order placed on Friday night with "2-Day" FedEx shipping will arrive the following Wednesday.

They do offer Saturday deliveries to some cities, but they have a surcharge for that (usually $12). Please contact us in advance if that's something you need.

International shipping is sent USPS First Class Air or International Priority Mail.

Occasionally we may need to use an alternate carrier, but we make sure the delivery speed is at least as fast as the service you've chosen and paid for (or we'll refund the difference in price).

If you've chosen a particular shipping method on purpose (ie, the US Postal Service won't deliver to your house, but FedEx does), please be sure to mention that in the checkout notes to make sure we don't give you an "upgrade" that makes things worse.

If we are offering a discount on shipping or similar promotion, it would apply only to shipping in the US and the shipping method would be "Ground" or "Standard" shipping only. If you'd like to ship faster, we'd be happy to arrange an upgrade.

If your order total is over $400, we usually send the package with a "signature required" to help insure it's not simply left on your doorstep.

How long will it take?

Depending on the shipping method you chose, it should take from 1 to 11 business days. During checkout we give a "best guess" for shipping time so you can pick the method you prefer.

For international addresses, most orders arrive in about 2 - 3 weeks (10 to 14 business days). Our experience has been that about 1 in 50 of orders takes as long as 5 weeks because of delays with customs (and there's no way to predict which ones will be slow - you just have to play the odds on that).

When possible we ship international orders in an envelope. We've found that Customs will hold boxes (on average) longer than envelopes.

Unfortunately, once it's in the mail system there is nothing we can do to speed things up. Some countries have notoriously slow delivery times.

Special note for Italy: because of problems shipping heavy packages, we cannot ship any orders over 16 ounces. We've very sorry for the inconvenience, but we've had extremely bad luck with the speed and reliability with the Italian mail system. Before we ship your order, we'll contact you to confirm you do not mind the limit or possible additional shipping time.

We also no longer deliver to most Eastern European countries, parts of Asia, and most of Africa. We've simply had way too many lost packages... Sorry. Please contact us if you're not sure and we'll let you know if we ship to your country.

How do I know it's been shipped?

You should receive an e-mail after your order has been packed and shipped so you'll know it's on the way. If there’s a tracking number or delivery confirmation number, that should be included in the e-mail.

How LONG will shipping take for International orders?

If you requested "Standard Shipping", it will be sent US First Class Air Mail. USPS says that's 14 - 21 business days plus any time it might wait in Customs.

"Priority Mail" for international orders has a stated delivery time of 6 - 10 business days. But again, that's also subject to Customs hold on top of that.

Our experience (anecdotally since we’ve never done research - just based on feedback) is that 40% of international orders take around a week and 80% take about 2 weeks or less. About 98% are there within 14 business days.

Keep in mind, we can't guarantee delivery times, since once it's in the mail system, we have no control over when it gets there. This is just to give you an idea of the time frame. We've seen stuff take as little as 2 days (!) and as long as 78 days (the record).

We won't mention any names, but some countries have really slow customs and if that's your country, you probably already know it. Brace yourself... It's not like our orders have a "magic get through customs fast" stamp for you guys - sorry.

We’ll ship some orders using Tyvek envelopes – depending on what it is - and that sometimes help get through Customs faster than boxes.

We also no longer deliver to most Eastern European countries, parts of Asia, and most of Africa. We've simply had way too many lost packages... Sorry. Please contact us if you're not sure and we'll let you know if we ship to your country.

Do I have to pay taxes or duties on my purchase?

If you are shipping to an address in California, we are required to collect sales tax on the purchase.

If you are shipping to an address outside of the US, you may be subject to a Customs or Duty charge outside of our control. If you select a shipping method using the US Postal Service, there is no "customs brokerage fee". Some shipping companies (FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.) do charge these fees in addition to Customs or Duty charges from your government, and again, they are outside of our control.

Can you mark my international order as a "GIFT" on the Customs form?

Sorry, no. It's not only against the law - it won't work.

Our labels have the customs form integrated into the design. It's way too obvious to Customs that you're getting a commercially shipped item - not cookies from Grandma.

What if I’m shipping to a PO Box or military addresses?

The United States Postal Service is the only service that will deliver to PO Boxes or APO/FPO's. If you are mailing to a non-street address and select a shipping method other than USPS your order will be delayed.

We will try to reach you for an alternate address or, failing that, refund your money and cancel the order.

Military addresses might require an additional day for processing before they leave the warehouse.

Can you use my UPS/DHL/FedEx account for shipping?

Sorry, shipping an order with an alternate method of payment isn't possible.

Tracking for international orders?

Unfortunately, there's no tracking number with international shipments. We've tried other shipping methods (with a tracking number), but they were just too expensive, there were always added "customs clearance" fees, and it didn't seem right charging more for shipping than the actual order.

The Customs number you received - depending on the method of shipping - just confirms delivery. It doesn't provide any information while the order is in transit.

Do I have to pay taxes or duties on my purchase?

If you are shipping to an address in California, we are required to collect a State sales tax (sorry).

If you are shipping to an address outside of the US, you may be subject to a Customs or Duty charges. If you select a shipping method using the US Postal Service, there is no "customs brokerage fee". Some shipping companies (FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.) do charge these fees.

Why can't I get the "Free Shipping" to show as an option?

If the "free shipping" promotion is currently available (not always - it would be on the Home Page if it is), and you're not seeing a shipping option that is "$0.00" for the cost, then most likely you're not using an eligible shipping destination. The free shipping applies only to "ground shipping" which is normally available to us only in the Continental United States. Sorry.
