These shorts do not have an elastic waistband. There is a drawstring inside the waistband, but you want to get pretty accurate on the waist size. The fly closure on the front will look a little funny if your waist is too big (or small).
These shorts tend to be on the baggy side, so if you really think you're between sizes, you should go with the smaller size. Besides, if they're too big, you're going to feel a little "breeze" in someone's guard position.
